Karla P. Sone, an associate at Chepenik Trushin LLP, concentrates her practice on insurance defense litigation and probate and trust litigation.
Ms. Sone was born and raised in the Dominican Republic. While employed full time, she graduated magna cum laude from Florida International University in 2017, with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Certificate in Pre-Law Skills & Professional Values. During her time at Florida International University, she was invited to join the Golden Key International Honor Society, an opportunity afforded only to students who demonstrate superior academic achievement. She subsequently earned her Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 2021.
While in law school, Ms. Sone earned CALI Awards of Excellence for achieving the highest grades in the courses of Legal Research & Writing, Advanced Legal Research & Writing, and Constitutional Law. Ms. Sone's passion for litigation also facilitated her exceptional performance in the courses of Evidence and Trial Practice. Following her first year of law school, Ms. Sone clerked at a law firm that specialized in Probate and Estate Planning, where she drafted pleadings and legal memoranda. She also interned at the Guardian ad Litem Program, where she advocated for the best interest of abused and neglected children. During her second year of law school, Ms. Sone served on the Executive Board for the University of Florida Art Law Society. During her third year, she served as a Certified Legal Intern at the University of Florida Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Clinic, where she represented victims of domestic violence and was selected to speak in court on their behalf.
Prior to pursuing a law degree, Ms. Sone spent over five years as an automobile insurance agent. She later obtained her Paralegal Certificate from the University of Miami and worked as a litigation paralegal for three years; first in the area of personal injury, and then in family law.
Ms. Sone began working at Chepenik Trushin LLP as a law clerk in the Summer of 2020 and transitioned to an associate upon admission to the Florida Bar in September 2021.
Ms. Sone is proud to be a first-generation college and law school graduate. She is fluent in Spanish.
